Happy New Year

Yes, I realize that I am a few months late to be welcoming in 2016 but January 1st just never feels like a new year to me. Stuck in there right in the middle of winter, I'm barely over the Christmas hoopla and now I'm supposed to be thinking about new beginnings and resolutions for this new year? No, it's dark and cold and feels old and the same, not new and exciting. But today, today is a new beginning. Today is like hitting the reset button. Everything is equal and fresh. We are moving forward into a new season of warmth, light, and fertility.

Today, while not quite as warm as I would have liked, I went out in the sunshine and surveyed my garden. I took note of what survived the winter and what needed tending too. I made plans for extending my planting beds and building a fence, to contain my new garden helpers and keep out those who think my garden is planted as their personal salad bar. Today I looked over my seedlings and pulled out the seeds that needed to be started next.
I also took the weekend to clean the house from top to bottom and smudged my space with sweet smelling Palo Santo wood. Spring cleaning is such a cliché but what better time to clear out clutter, dust, and old energy.

And while you are welcoming the new season with open arms you can't help but to let go of the old that no longer serves you and release the past to stay where it belongs, in the past. Yes, today is new, today is the beginning of something exciting.

And today is the day that I am starting this blog. This idea of the Hippie Homesteader has been rattling around my head since last fall. I hope you will visit me again as I continue on my journey of sustainability and enlightenment. I plan to give you a glimpse into my somewhat crazy life and throw in tidbits of wisdom about gardening, sustainability, and physical and spiritual wellbeing that I have gathered along the way.

Happy spring!
Peace and love my friends. -A
